About us
Aterre is a residential architecture practice based in Sydney. We help our clients create space for life - spaces that are enduring and delightful.
Established in 2018 by Melinda, our team shares a grounded and inclusive approach to design. We work closely with clients, consultants and contractors to deliver considerate and thoughtful spaces that people can call home.
We enjoy the challenges presented by unusual sites, reimagining existing buildings, working within heritage contexts, and moving beyond the standard to deliver exceptional spaces that minimise our environmental impact.
We work locally from Sydney’s Inner West, the traditional lands of the Gadigal and Wangal people of the Eora Nation and recognise their intrinsic and ongoing connection to community, culture and the country on which we are very fortunate to work.

Melinda Fletcher
DIRECTOR & REGISTERED ARCHITECT
NSW ARB 10300 | MArch (USyd), BDesArch (USyd)
Mel embodies both expertise and approachability. Known for her 'Yes, and...' attitude, Mel is radically open-minded, bringing a spirit of collaboration and inclusivity to the process of creating homes. She excels at refining the small details that make each space unique while also maintaining a clear focus on the overarching goals of a project. This dual proficiency ensures that every element of a design contributes to a cohesive and exceptional whole.
A registered architect in NSW, Melinda has been around construction sites since she was a child, growing up in semi-rural Sydney on Dharug land. Weekends were spent exploring the bush or making things under the house in the workshop. She values the craft of construction, imbuing each design with both pragmatism and an elevated simplicity.
Mel’s approachable nature, combined with her dedication to both the intricate details and the big picture, makes her an invaluable partner in creating spaces that are beautiful, functional, and sustainable.

Michael Rogers
PRINCIPAL & REGISTERED ARCHITECT
MArch (Curtin), BApp Science - Architecture (Curtin)
Originally hailing from a 300 year old barn in Scotland that his parents converted into a house, Mike has lived experience of many countries, cultures and climates which has shaped his attitude toward design, architecture and the idea of what defines a home.
Ranging from harsh northern hemisphere winters to Egyptian summers, and all through Australia’s Southern, West and East coast climes, he understands the importance of designing for climate in creating shelter and is drawn to the history and stories that shape a place.
Mike has an eye and an appreciation for details that elevate the execution of each project. He can often be found ‘sweating the small stuff’ (..and we love him for it!) Mike brings over a decade of large practice analytical and technical rigor to our projects to ensure the best possible outcome for our clients.

Monique Camilleri
ARCHITECTURAL ASSISTANT
BDesArch (UTS) Ongoing
Monique is fascinated by architecture as a form of storytelling, a passion that extends to her love for conveying stories through graphic representations of spaces. Growing up on Darkinjung soil, she has always been surrounded by rich natural environments, fostering her understanding of humans as integral parts of an interconnected system of living things. She equally adores the city, a place of both diversity and commonality, where countless ideas can be exchanged freely.
Practicing in Eora/Sydney allows Monique to explore the rich nuances and layers of history embedded in the city. She finds it immensely rewarding to intertwine these place narratives with the unique expressions of her clients.
Her passion for thoughtful architecture spans various scales, from the experiential and ephemeral qualities of a single room to broader themes of urbanism and the fundamental concept of dwelling.
